Cherokee Indian Dwelling House

During the early 1800’s, a typical Cherokee family lived on a farmstead that included a dwelling house, smoke house, corn crib, and a barn. This is a Cherokee Dwelling House located on a Georgia State Historical site. Cherokees were excellent craftsmen and used log construction for almost every building. By 1839, more than 6,000 Cherokee buildings stood in the Georgia section of the Cherokee nation, This location is known as New Echota, the capital of the Cherokee Nation. Where I live in Ellijay was a part of the Cherokee nation.
